When it comes to snowboard photography, it is essential to capture the right moment.

Know what your rider is going to do and let the rider know how you want the end photo. In other words, talk.

As a photographer, you should have completed the necessary preparation (getting the right angle, distance, and lighting). But still, with all that sorted, it can be hard to get the shot you want.

When I want the rider to fit into a special composition, I found out that the best way to achieve this is as a team. I let the rider know what I want, I tell him where in the air or on the rail I want him to look stylish. With the checklist in mind, he can focus on getting this nailed as best as possible and everyone is happy in the end.

Previously, if I didn’t take that quick second to talk to the riders about the shots I wanted, then it was always a struggle and would take ages to get the shot. This gets frustrating for both sides, so it’s best to communicate.
