Glove Care

To ensure your Vallerret Photography Gloves remain in top shape for many winter seasons to come, it’s important to care for them properly. Whether made from goat leather or high-performance synthetics, here’s everything you need to know about looking after your gloves.

Quick Do's and Don’ts

  • Do: Wash with damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Don’t: Machine wash, tumble dry, or wring out gloves.
  • Do: Condition leather occasionally to prevent it from drying out.
  • Don’t: Use fabric softeners
  • Do: Air dry gloves naturally, away from direct heat.

General Care for All Gloves

  1. Avoid Machine Washing:
While our gloves are durable, they require gentle care. Hand washing is always best. Simply use lukewarm water, perhaps a mild detergent, and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid scrubbing, especially on leather parts.

  2. Air Dry Only:
Do not tumble dry or expose your gloves to direct heat (like radiators or hair dryers). Instead, allow them to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight, which can cause damage or shrinkage.

  3. Avoid Soaking:
While our gloves are designed to handle wet conditions, soaking them for long periods can damage the materials. If they get too wet, gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring), and allow them to dry.

Leather Gloves (Goat Leather)

If your gloves have goat leather components, they’ll need a little extra TLC.

  1. Spot Clean Leather:
For minor dirt or stains, use a soft, damp cloth to gently clean the leather areas. Avoid soaking the leather entirely.

  2. Conditioning Leather:
Leather can dry out over time, especially in cold or wet conditions. We recommend using a leather conditioner or balm every few months to keep the leather soft and supple. Apply it with a soft cloth, following the product’s instructions, and allow it to fully absorb before using your gloves again.

  3. Storage:
Store your leather gloves in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If they’re left in damp conditions for too long, the leather can stiffen or crack.

Storage Tips

  • Avoid Dampness:
Store your gloves in a dry place when not in use. Prolonged exposure to moisture can damage both leather and synthetic fabrics.

  • Carabiner Use:
Many of our gloves come with a convenient carabiner clip. Use this to attach your gloves to your bag or gear when out on shoots to avoid losing them and keeping them dry.
