Dealer FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We design gloves for all winter conditions and all gloves come with a rating from Light Winter to Arctic Winter conditions (rating is specified on Glove Hang Tag).

Ask the customer the following 2 questions:

- Where are you going for your Photography trip (e.g. UK or Antarctica)?
- What will you be shooting? (Will the customer be sitting still or running around to get the shot?)

These factors will determine how much protection your customer will need against the elements.

Another good question to ask is how many clothes they are planning to be wearing and match that level of clothing with a glove thickness.

If you’re not sure what glove to recommend to a customer, please read this comprehensive blog post or watch the 3 min video where Carl, Vallerret Founder, breaks down our entire glove line. It has all the info you need.

Please see our sizing chart.

MOST OF OUR GLOVES HAVE A SNUGG FIT

Please note we have UNISEX photography gloves and one glove model customized FEMALE photography gloves (W’s Nordic). If you are looking for sizes for the W’s Nordic, please refer to the “Female Sizing” chart. For all other gloves, please use our “Unisex Sizes.”

As we learn more and more about gloves, we also learn that all hands are different. Some people have long skinny fingers and slim wrists and others have wide hands with short fingers.

IN-BETWEEN SIZES
If your customer is in-between sizes e.g. one size in the length but another size in the width, we would recommend choosing the larger of the two options.

To make it easier for your customers to choose the right glove for their personal photography needs, we have designed these winter condition ratings and rated all our gloves to help you understand the conditions that that particular Vallerret Photography Glove performs best in.

Personal Example from the Founder:
The Markhof 2.0 and The W's Nordic are designed to be great Everyday-Use photography gloves for the Mild-Mid winter days. Personally, I get cold fast and I wear these models comfortably down to -1/-2C depending on wind etc, but I know of others who have been happy down to -10C.

For -15C I would personally wear The Ipsoot with liners or the Skadi Mitt with Liners.

In our Arctic experience, it's hard for one glove to do the trick when temperatures drop down to -20C and that's why we've designed the Alta Over-Mitt to get as an extra glove for protection when you don't need to work with your hands. For -20 I would go liners, Ipsoot and Alta Over-Mitt.

Some people get colder than others. That is a fact. Therefore it is very tricky to give specific temperature recommendations. Humidity, chill factor etc. also plays a role. We write a little about it here:

We advise to wear the same size liner as a glove, so e.g. Ipsoot Medium with a Medium Liner. Naturally, the glove will be more snug/tight with the added liner but there will be room.

Exception 1: If you are at the very end of the ratio size in the sizing chart, e.g. 1mm from being a size large, then we advise going up a glove size if you plan to often wear the liner with the gloves.

Exception 2: If your personal preference is to wear fairly loose gloves, then you should also go up a size when adding a liner. We don’t recommend this as you will compromise dexterity with loose gloves and our priority is the best possible camera feel. But you know best what you like.

House tip: Make sure to choose a liner size that is snug/tight on your hand for the best Fliptech performance when wearing liners and gloves together.

Our signature FipTech finger caps are secured with two small magnets to keep the caps out of your way while you use your camera. These magnets will not affect your camera body, lenses, flashes, radio transmitters or other sensitive electronics we commonly use every day as photographers, including modern smartphones and laptops. As long as your device uses solid-state hard drives (such as your laptop, smartphone and SD cards), your electronics will not be affected at all by the magnets. On rare occasions, our magnets will affect the orientation of a handheld compass. Below is a list of other items that should be kept away from magnets:

-Older spinning hard drives

-Pacemakers: Research has shown that common magnets for home and office use with low magnetic strength posed little risk however if you have any concerns, please consult your physician.

We have run many tests and have learned that your thumb length and where the knuckle hinges can affect how well the magnets stay connected. To combat this, please check that the magnets overlap when you fold it back, you may need to move out your thumb just a little further for the magnets to meet. All hands are different and millimeters can make a big difference:-)

This is of course different to the magnets not working at all, which we deeply apologize for.

If you're using the screen protector, that will influence conductivity and my recommendation would be choosing the ones that are designed to least affect it. The thicker the protector the more they will reduce the screen's sensitivity. In some cases, extremely low temperatures can affect performance as well. That is, of course, different from the touchscreen being defective and not working at all.

If you pull the zipper with the pull tab either straight forward or straight back instead of point upwards it should run smoothly. The zip has an auto-lock and you need to dis-engage it.

Yes, you can, we have tested that. For example, Little Hotties from Costco/amazon will :) A Pro tip: It is easier to get them in when you take the glove off.

Refund and Returns

Yes. If the gloves don’t fit we’ll find a solution. If the customer would like to exchange for another size, they have 30 days to return our gloves. The product must be unused and in good condition. Remind the customers that the gloves will give and adjust to your hand when they’ve worn them a few times (just like new shoes), so bear this in mind whilst helping them make a decision.

Yes, no worries. We're proud to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee or full refund no questions asked.

  1. Measure around the widest part of your hand with a relaxed open palm.

Please note, our gloves are designed to fit snuggly to give you the best camera feel without compromising on warmth. If you prefer a looser fit, please consider to go a size up.

As we learn more and more about gloves we also learn that all hands are different. Some people have long skinny fingers and slim wrists, others have wide hands with short fingers.

Our gloves wont fit all even with the right measurements from the sizing chart – but we try!

What size should I get if I'm between sizes?

For many, the best option will be to go up a size if your measurements are in between sizes.

If you are between sizes or if your hands do not fit into the measurements on our sizing chart, we recommend prioritizing the fit for the girth measurement. The girth is the most important measurement and if the girth size on the glove is too small, you won't be able to fit the glove.

Should I size up for my liner glove?

If you’re considering pairing a liner glove with your photography gloves, we recommend choosing the same size liner as photography glove. We designed our liners to be thin and fit inside of our photography gloves so we recommend your normal size in liners. There are two exceptions to this:

Exception #1: If you are at the very end of the ratio size in the sizing chart, e.g. 1 mm from being a size Large, then we advise going up a glove size if you plan to often wear the liner with the gloves.

Exception #2: If your personal preference is to wear fairly loose gloves, then you should also go up a size when adding a liner. We don't recommend this as you will compromise dexterity with loose gloves and our priority is best possible camera feel. But you know best what you like!

House tip: Make sure to choose a liner size that is snug/tight on your hand for the best Fliptech performance when wearing liners and gloves together.
