Tuesday Shooter Tips: Surround yourself with great people

As the saying goes “it’s hard to sore like an eagle when you’re surrounded by turkeys” .
If you want a sure way to improve your photography then put yourself in an environment with great people. People who can pick your game up and inspire you. If your shooting with better photographers, not only do they make you motivated but you learn a lot as well, even if it’s just silently watching their approach to things. Same goes for the talent, great action shots often requires that the action is great.

Ok, so it’s easy to say “surround yourself with great people” but how do you do that? Well, you have a few options.

Reach out: Email people in your area that you know or have heard of. Go to local shops and ask if they know of anybody in the area. Follow photographers on social media and find a way to get in touch or invite them on a mission.

Courses and meet-ups : It may be the expensive option but with a course you are sure to learn things and most importantly meet other photographers. Websites like meetup.com have a huge range of social get-togethers where you could find a group of great people.

Change location: In all aspects of life there are geographical areas that are buzzing in one discipline or another. Silicone valley is for start-ups and Alaska is for big mountain snowboarding, perhaps it’s time you found where all the pros are hanging out and head there.
