The Best Gloves for Winter Photography [Glove Guide Season 2026/27]

Winter doesn’t have to mean putting your camera away. Our photography gloves are designed for every kind of cold, from crisp autumn mornings to deep winter shoots.

Find the pair that fits your needs, your style, and your adventure!

In a Hurry? Our Top Picks

Start Here: Ask Yourself These 3 Questions

  • HOW COLD WILL IT FEEL?

Every Vallerret glove has a Winter Condition Rating: Light Winter, Mild Winter, Mid-Winter, Deep Winter or Arctic Winter.

Start by considering the expected temperature, but don't stop there. Wind, humidity and how long you'll be outside can all make the same temperature feel very different.

  • HOW ACTIVE WILL YOU BE?

This is often the overlooked factor. Will you be standing still for hours waiting for the perfect light, or hiking, skiing and moving constantly between shots?

The less you move, the more warmth you'll generally need. Think about your clothing too: if you're layering up your body to stay warm, you may want more insulation on your hands as well. If you're highly active and regularly removing layers, a lighter glove may be all you need.

  • DO YOU GET COLD EASILY?

Your personal cold tolerance matters. Some people naturally run warmer than others.

These 3 factors together are the best starting point for choosing your glove.

For example, you might initially think a Mid-Winter glove is right for you based on temperature alone. But if you'll be sitting still for several hours and tend to get cold easily, you may be better off stepping up to a Deep Winter option.

THE GLOVE FOR YOUR GLOVES

Alta Arctic Mitt by Vallerret Photography Gloves

Rating: Arctic Winter
Use: Taken from our days mushing dogs in the Arctic, this glove will keep you warm in the coldest, darkest of days. Just like you’d layer up with a puffy jacket for your upper body, the Alta is meant to be used in the same way. An extra down coat layer for whatever glove you’re already wearing. Wear the Alta Mits over your gloves and when you’re ready to shoot, unzip the palm to free your fingers or simply drop the gloves which will hang suspended on our included harness.

With DWR Goat leather and DWR twill with a laminated membrane, this glove gives excellent wind protection and insulation. The glove features a FlipTech Mitt Cap opening to expose your inner glove and gain access to your dials, with a weatherproof Vallerret zipper. This glove also includes a Gauntlet Over Cuff, Wrist Strap, Carabiner, and a Glove Harness all to aid with the ease of getting those arctic shots.

Fit/Sizing: The Alta Arctic Mitt is meant to fit over all of our Vallerret Photography Gloves, which are sold separately. This glove is offered in XS - S - M - L - XL.

Tinden

FOR THE DEEP WINTER DAYS

Tinden Photography Glove by Vallerret

Rating: Deep Winter
Use: The Tinden is a heavy-duty glove, and one of our warmest glove alternatives, providing extra protection against the elements when the temperatures drop down. A great glove choice for a trip to Iceland or if you plan to spend a lot of time in the snow. “Tinden” is one of the many names for a peak in Norwegian, and just like the namesake, The Tinden photography glove will get you to the top of your winter photography during the darkest and coldest days of the season.

Materials: The Tinden features an inner combination of Primaloft insulation and a 100% Merino wool lining, DWR fabrics with a laminated membrane, and a gauntlet under-cuff keeping your wrists warm and looking tidy as it fits under your jacket cuff.
