We thought we would share our voice in the discussion amongst photographers: Photography gloves – to Wear or Not?

The cost/benefit analysis

It all comes down to your own personal take on what you gain by wearing gloves and what you lose. Wearing no gloves at all naturally gives you the perfect feel of your camera and the optimal conditions for operating your camera controls. But what do you do when it’s freezing outside and the mountains are calling? We are definitely willing to trade an extra layer of fabric between ourselves and our camera and here is why:

The real problem of not wearing Photography Gloves

– is not cold hands

The real problem of not wearing gloves is not cold and numb hands, nor the discomfort of feeling your blood struggle to get through to your icy fingertips. We’re tough Vikings, aye! Nope, the real problem is that you compromise your photography because of the cold and discomfort. That is essentially the greatest challenge of Winter photography: to make sure our photography doesn’t suffer due to weather conditions.

As our hands get colder holding the camera, we find that our focus slowly changes from being purely on the frame and the composition over to searching for excuses to settle for that last shot, that wasn’t exactly what you were after. In some cases you might not take your camera out again even for a great composition, simply because your hands are still numb from the last shot.

You won't get the full potential out of your photography and that is dissatisfying.

Extend your session with warm hands

Naturally, you have the best feel with your camera when you don’t wear gloves – but you also cut your sessions short and compromise your photography.

Winter is amazing for photography and we don’t want to miss out or cut any session shorter just because of temperatures. Especially when there are some sweet sweet photography gloves in the making wink wink.

If you liked this post, you’ll love these too!

Winter is no joke! Keep warm and shop our range of Vallerret Photography Gloves.
