Vallerret Photography Glove Instagram Takeover Guidelines

Thank you for participating in a takeover of our Instagram page. The goal of our Instagram takeovers is simple: foster a community of winter photographers.

Because our community is built up by fellow photographers, the content of the Instagram story should be heavily focused on what goes on behind the scenes as a photographer. We want to see the photographer’s thought process, how s/he sets up a shot, what s/he has to do to get the photo. The end result is great but we really want to see what goes one behind the camera.

A successful takeover will benefit everyone. Here's how to do it:
  • Share only content you produced or have the rights to share.
  • Share photos that are relevant to winter photography (can be sports photography, to urban, to beyond!
  • Always keep in mind you're speaking to a community of avid winter photographers.
  • Behind the scene shots are way more interesting to our community than the end result! Talk about your process and how you got the photo.

Behind thescene shots resonate with our followers

The following is a guideline for out Instagram takeovers.

Do’s:

  • Advertise your takeover on your own channel. To optimize visibility and engagement, announce on your own feed/story that you’ll be sharing your adventures on the @vallerret page.
  • Prepare 5-10 photos ahead of the takeover. Planning ahead will ensure your story is coherent and not just thrown together last minute.
  • Think of what you’ll say about each photo. Again, the end result photo is great but we really want to know what’s going on inside the photographer’s head. What were you thinking about when getting the shot? What steps did you take to compose it? What settings did you decide on? What struggles did you face to get the shot?
  • Introduce yourself to @vallerret’s following. Share a bit about who you are, what you do, and how you’d describe your photography. If relevant, explain your relationship with Vallerret. Are you an ambassador? A dedicated fan? A team shooter? Giving an intro will let the audience know what to expect over the week.
  • Add a short line saying it’s a takeover to the beginning of EACH post. You don’t have to reintroduce yourself every time but this will avoid confusion for new visitors.
  • As a minimum, use Vallerret’s hashtag #builtforwinter but feel free to get creative. Any hashtags you think are relevant are welcomed but it’s always a good idea to research your hashtags before to make sure they don’t refer or link to inappropriate content.
  • Get creative. Photos are great but if you have short captivating video content you’d like to share instead, go for it!

This video of team shooter Lukas Reidl faceplanting was entertaining and engaging.

Don’t:

  • Don’t use third-party plugs, other brand's hashtags or other brand mentions (although feel free to tag yourself or those in the photos)
  • Don't post content that showcases any illegal activity or showcases drugs or sexual content. Minimal swearing and alcohol are fine as long as it’s not overbearing and tacky.
  • Don't post and forget it. Engagement is key. Be sure to respond to comments and answer questions.

Procedures:

  • Once we have agreed upon an Instagram takeover, the photographer and Vallerret team will decide on a week that works for both parties.
  • Vallerret team and photographer will decide on the theme for the takeover
  • Photographer will prepare 5-10 shots with captivating and descriptive captions
  • Vallerret team will hand over login information before the takeover
  • Photographer will post content throughout the week.
If you have any questions or need help with content ideas, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
