We’ve got some exciting things happening at Vallerret! Remember a few months ago when we announced our partnership with 1% for the Planet. With this partnership, we’ve committed 1% of our annual revenue to environmental nonprofits and over the past few months, we have been carefully reviewing a lot of awesome nonprofits and we are stoked to announce our first 1% for the Planet partnership with The Conservation Alliance.
The Conservation Alliance is a nonprofit focused on funding for community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat and outdoor recreation. The Alliance was founded in 1989 by outdoor industry leaders REI, Patagonia, The North Face and Kelty who shared a goal of increasing outdoor industry support for conservation efforts.
The Conservation Alliance is a group of like-mind companies that disburses its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations. They direct funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat and outdoor recreation through rigorous grant proposal review processes that ensure the grants go to organizations that can succeed given the necessary financial resources.
North America is the third largest continent and contains all the major biomes in the world! From the desert to grassland, to tundra, and coral reefs, the diverse public land on this continent is under constant threat and in constant need for protection.
Since it’s inception in 1989, the Conservation Alliance has helped save more than 51 million acres of North American wildlands, protected 3,107 miles of rivers, stopped or removed 34 dams, designated five marine reserves and purchased 14 climbing areas. ⠀
In addition to providing funding to grassroots environmental organizations, The Conservation Alliance focus on advocacy by leveraging the collective voice of its members and sending messages to decision-makers in Washington, DC and on the local level about the economic benefit of protected lands and waters.
As recreationists and an outdoor inspired-business, we are proud to partner with the Conservation Alliance to help ensure our wild places and public lands are protected and well-managed. ⠀
By shopping at Vallerret, you'll be indirectly contributing to the Conservation Alliance. A portion of your money will be directed to help conserve wild areas in North America.
As a member of the Conservation Alliance, we have the opportunity to nominate two organizations per funding cycle to receive grant funding. We also get a chance to vote on which nominated organizations should be funded. And how will we choose? With the help of our Vallerret community, of course! We want to hear from you. What organizations do you want to see funded? What projects are meaningful to you? We want our contributions to count in communities in which our customers live.
The Conservation Alliance has an impressive collection of accomplishments over the past decade. They have established new protections for high-value backcountry ski and snow terrain in the Lassen National Forest, protected all of Yellowstone's winter backcountry areas for wildlife habitat and human-powered access, purchased and conserved 1,200 acres of Bolton Valley Nordic and Backcountry land in Vermont, as well as many, many other conservation wins. You can read all about their successes here.
